Robert Summers grew up in Texas and worked as a technical illustrator after taking correspondence courses in art. After a relative paid his living expenses for a year so he could paint full time, he began a successful career as a painter and sculptor of contempory Western genre. He is known for his attention to detaila nd the authenticity of his imagery. He also accepts commissions to create monumental sculpture for public places. His most significant public project is Pioneer Plaza, a spectucular sculptural group that recreates a 19th Century trail drive with three riders on horseback and almost sixty longhorn steer. The setting is a four acre park with an artificial waterfall and stream in front of the Dallas Convention Center. Summers' work is sold on the primary market through retail galleries; and there is a developed secondary market for his owrk through both galleries and at auction. |
