Enlisted as Texas Ranger, 1899 Enlisted, Company "B", 1902 Promoted, Sergeant, August 2, 1905 Transferred, Company "A", 1907 Died on duty from tuberculosis, September 23, 1910 Enlisted in Captain Bill McDonald's Company B Frontier Battalion 1899-1900 when the Rangers reorganized, then continued 1900-1903/04 in the new Ranger Force. William J McCauley was also know as W. J. McCauley and as "Billy" McCauley when he served in the Texas Rangers. His uncle was Captain William Jesse McDonald of the Texas Rangers. His mother was sister to William Jesse McDonald. McCauley died at the age of 37 on September 23, 1910. He died from complications of tuberculosis in Marlin, Texas and his body was shipped to Wichita Falls, where he is buried. |
