Jack Harwell was born about Dec. 1858 in Newton County, Mississippi to Jackson and Celia Harwell. By 1880 the family had apparently moved to Texas. Harwell enlisted in Captain Bill McDonald's Company B, Frontier Battalion, 1892-1898. He enlisted as a Private on Dec. 27, 1892 and remained in that company until he was discharged Aug. 31, 1898. He was stationed at Amarillo during this time. He remained in the Amarillo area, becoming a saloonkeeper, then moving to New Mexico within a few years. He was then known as a rancher. While he may have resided in New Mexico for a period of time, he passed away in 1913 and is buried at Robinson Cemetery in McLennan County, Texas. |
