Col. Sam Colt, inventer of the Colt revolver. He patented it in 1836, and started making them at Patterson, New Jersey. His company failed in 1842. After the Mexican War started (1845) Colt got an order (1846) for 1,000 revolvers. This and other orders enabled him to set up his plant again, this time in Hartford, Connecticut. He was born in Hartford, July 19, 1814 and died there Jan 16, 1862 He was only 47 years of age at his death. |
