Description |
Spanish Miquelet pistol, .70 cal iron mounted with brass tip ram rod. Mountings are engraved with a floral motif. Wooden stock carved with a similar floral motif. Miquelets were Catalan (northern Spain) militiamen during the 17th and 18th centuries. When the Spanish settled North America, they would have brought weapons like this with them. Soldiers of this period were required to supply their own weapons for use in the militia, and this gun may have belonged to a former miquelet stationed in Texas. |
