Description |
Black and white 4 x 5.5" photo of ten Rangers (6 standing and 4 sitting) posing with Winchester rifles. Each individual is labelled with a number corresponding to a key on the back. However, the names vary and are uncertain. The key has corrections written in pencil and ink, and other writing in ink, at least some of which appears to be in Brooks' hand: Typed on back: "Company F, Frontier Battalion, Texas, Rangers, 1882 / 1. J. W. Buck, 2. Pete Edwards, 3. Capt. Joe Sheely, 4. George Farrer, 5. Brack Morris, 6. Charlie Norris, 7. LinkSheely - Wash, 8. Tony, 9. Bob Crowder, 10. Cecilio Charo." In blue ink: "Lieut Rudd, Lieut Scott, Edwards from Grimes Co, Bill (?), J.H. rogers, Adams, Will Hale, Link shely, Mayfield at Old Helena, John Puckett, Kennedy, Karnes Co, Lynch, Walden, Gonzales Co." In black ink: "Capt Joe Shely and his Ranger boys, 1883. Brooks, Scott, Rudd, Rogers, Edwards, not in the group were (?) Texas, Co. "F" F.B., McNelly Co." |
