Description |
B/W photo of the law enforcement team tasked with taking down "Bonnie and Clyde" in 1934. Standing L to R: Prentiss Oakley; Ted Hinton; Bob Alcorn; Manny Gault. Kneeling L to R: Frank Hamer; Jordan Henderson. They pose in front of a chain-link fence, Arcadia, LA. They represented three different law enforcement agencies that had pursued Bonnie and Clyde in the last few weeks of their lives. Kneeling in front is former Texas Ranger Frank Hamer. Hamer had gone to work for the Texas Prison System as a special investigator, specifically assigned to hunt down the Barrow Gang. Hamer drew on his years of Ranger experience to track the gang to Louisiana. Next to him is Sheriff Henderson Jordan, who had primary jurisdiction in Bienville Parrish. He had negotiated a deal with the father of a gang member that lured Clyde and Bonnie to the location where they were killed. Standing on the left is Bienville Parrish Deputy Sheriff Prentiss Oakley, who fired the first shot of the ambush. Next to him is Dallas County Deputy Sheriff Ted Hinton, who wielded the Colt Monitor automatic rifle that can be seen at the Texas Ranger Museum. Next is Dallas County Deputy Bob Alcorn; Alcorn knew Clyde Barrow personally and identified him as they approached the hidden posse. Standing on the right is former Texas Ranger Benjamin "Manny" Gault, who Hamer hand-picked to assist him in the hunt for Bonnie and Clyde. |
