Willie Slaughter Sutton was born on August 24, 1874, in DeWitt, Texas, when her mother, Laura, was 21. Her father had already been killed in the Sutton-Taylor feud by the time she was born, and she was named William or "Willie" in honor of her father. She married John William Calhoun on November 5, 1895, in Cuero, Texas. They had three children in 10 years. She died as a young mother on March 24, 1908, in Victoria, Texas, at the age of 33, and was buried there. |
