Jack Carlton Moore, better known as Clayton Moore, was born on September 14, 1914 to Theresa and Charles Moore in Chicago, Illinois. As a child, Moore was an accomplished aerialist, working as a circus acrobat. In 1934, Moore performed at the World's Fair. During World War II, Moore enlisted in the Air Force and made training videos for the armed forces. In 1949, Moore starred in the movie serial, "The Ghost of Zorro." His performace caught the eye of George W. Trendle, the co-creater and producer of the popular radio show, "The Lone Ranger." When Trendle adapted the show for television in 1949, Moore landed the titular role, and remained closely involved with "The Lone Ranger" throughout the rest of his life. Moore was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which reads, "Clayton Moore The Lone Ranger." He passed away from a heart attack on December 28, 1999. |
