James W. McCormick enlisted as a Texas Ranger in 1920 as a private and worked his way up through the ranks. He enlisted in Co. HQ of the Rangers on March 27, 1920, and was discharged April 23, 1920. He reenlisted Oct. 18, 1920, and was discharged Dec. 31, 1920. He reenlisted in Co. B on Feb. 15, 1921, but resigned April 18, 1922 to become the Chief of Police at Wichita Falls. However, McCormick reenlisted as a Sergeant in the Co. C of the Rangers on April 13, 1923, and resigned Oct. 7, 1924. He reenlisted again as a Private in Co. HQ on Aug. 3, 1926, and was discharged May 15, 1927. He was made a Captain of the Texas Rangers on Jan. 16, 1935, under Gov. Allred's administration, and was discharged May 31, 1938. |
