Albert R. Mace was born in Lampasas, Texas on April 30, 1872 to Solon and Mary Mace. He began his Ranger career as a Private on Dec. 22, 1902. He served in Co. D under Capt. John R. Hughes during this time, being discharged Aug. 8, 1903. He resigned to become deputy sheriff of Lampasas County, and was sheriff for 12 years. He left there to become chief of police at Mexia during the oil boom days. Mace was later appointed by the Governor as a Captain of the Rangers at Del Rio on Nov. 17, 1930, until Nov. 17, 1932, when he was moved to Co. D at Falfurrias, and then discharged Jan. 18, 1933. Subsequently he was chief of police at Corpus Christi and was reappointed to the Texas Rangers on Oct. 1, 1935. He was stationed at Junction and died at Mexia while still in service on Oct. 18, 1938. |
