Enlisted, TDPS Highway Patrol, September 1, 1941 Transferred, Texas Rangers Company "E", September 1, 1947 Promoted and transferred, Sergeant, Company "B", September 1, 1957 Reverted and transferred, Private, Company "E", July 1, 1958 Retired, July 31, 1974 Arthur Hill served in the Texas Rangers from 1947 to 1974, working largely along the Rio Grande border region. He promoted to sergeant of Ranger Company B in 1957 in Dallas, before returning again to the border. During his career, he faced the Lone Star Steel strike, KKK activity, the "Dixie Mafia", and drug-running and illegal immigration along the border. Arthur was born in Bell County, Texas, but his school days were spent in Santa Anna, Coleman County, Texas. As a young man he worked at various jobs, including an oil-related job which required a move to Midland where he met and married Ruby Kerby on 25 Apr 1933. Shortly thereafter he launched a very successful law enforcement career. He and Ruby lived in Erath County, Texas, and moved to Alpine, where they raised their two daughters, Marjorie Ann and Martha Louise. Arthur lived an exemplary life. His death was at home in Alpine. |
