He had an interest in the Rangers from a young age. He attended the University of Houston before joining the Texas Highway Department as a surveyor for several years. He subsequently joined the Texas DPS in 1963 with the Texas Highway Patrol. Davis promoted to the Rangers in 1969 and served in Company F in Kerrville. He attained the rank of Sergeant and eventually retired from the Rangers in 1993. He has served many years as the President of the Former Texas Rangers Foundation.
