Herff Alexander Carnes was a Texas Ranger from 1903-1911 and served in Company D. Born to Joseph and Mary Carnes on May 23, 1879, Carnes was the older brother to Quirl B. Carnes, a Texas Ranger who died in the line of duty in 1910. After leaving the Texas Rangers in 1911, Herff became a Mounted U.S Customs Inspector. In December 1932, Herff Carnes was fatally wounded during an altercation with smugglers at the border. He died of his wounds three days later, leaving his wife and three children behind. |
