Ray Cano was born on August 8, 1949 in Pharr, Texas, in the Rio Grande Valley where his parents were migrant workers. After graduating from Lamar Consolidated High School, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1968 and served in the Vietnam War. Cano joined the Texas DPs in 1971 with the Texas Highway Patrol, also working in the Motor Vehicle Theft Service. He promoted to the Rangers in 1986 and served in Company D in Kingsville and San Antonio. His Ranger specialization was hypnosis, and he was also the evidence custodian for the Branch Davidian trial. He retired from the Rangers in 2001, and worked in corporate security for AT&T and Trinity Industries. |
