Notes	George Christopher Brakefield II was a career law enforcement officer killed in the line of duty while serving as Chief Deputy for the Collin County Sheriff's Department. Brakefield was killed in an automobile accident in 1982 when his patrol car left the roadway and overturned in a culvert. The accident happened on FM 2514 near Plano on January 11, 1982. He left a wife, three children and three grandchildren. Brakefield served as a Texas Ranger for more than a decade. He joined the Rangers in 1969 and served until 1981 when he joined the Collin County Sheriff's Department. Before he was a ranger, Brakefield served as an investigative officer for the Tarrant County District Attorney's office for six years; as assistant chief deputy in Tarrant County for eight years; and a Fort Worth patrol officer for five years. Chief Deputy Brakefield was killed in an automobile accident on FM 2514. His patrol car left the roadway and overturned in a culvert. He was thrown from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries. Chief Deputy Brakefield had served with the agency for 2 years. He was survived by his wife, three children, and three grandchildren. Governor Bill Clements issued a proclamation seven days after Brakefield's death giving he and his wife permission to be buried in the State Cemetery.
