John "Johnnie" Aycock joined the Texas DPS in 1968 with the Texas Highway Patrol. He also worked in the Narcotics Division. He promoted to Ranger in 1982, working his entire service in Company F in Temple. He attained the rank of Sergeant and specialized in hostage situations. Aycock is unique in having received the DPS Medal of Valor twice. He was awarded the Medal of Valor in 1987 for his role in effecting the rescue of a kidnapped child in 1987, in which fellow Ranger Stan Guffey was killed. He was again awarded the Medal of Valor in 1995 for his successful negotiation of a life-threatening hostage situation. He also received the TDCJ Director's Citation in 1997, and the US Army Criminal Investigation Command Certificate of Appreciation. |
