Single page letter dated March 26, 1873. Addressed to Ranger Lt. W.H. Ledbetter from Adjutant General F. L. Britton. On letterhead from the Adjutant General's Office of the State of Texas. Ledbetter was in command of the Co. "A" Minute Men at San Saba, Texas. "Sir, Referring to your letter of 14 instant, expressing your views as to the best method of affording Frontier protection etc. I would state that I think myself the present system of Frontier protection is the best that can under the circumstances be adopted. Until the Federal Government change their manner of treating the Indians it will be impossible for Texas to provide security for the frontier. If you will report the men here who have been in the past or are in the future insubordinate, I will dismiss them and you can recruit new ones in their stead." |
