Bobby Grubbs was born on June 18, 1945 to A.J. "Jay" and Meriel Grubbs in Sweetwater, where he attended public schools. After graduation he enlisted in the Navy and served aboard the destroyer USS Fletcher DD-445 during the Vietnam War. After service in the US Navy, he joined Texas DPS in 1969 with the Texas Highway Patrol in Denton County. He promoted to the Rangers in 1984 and served in Midland and Brownwood. He attained the rank of Sergeant and specialized in hypnosis. He served for a total of 34 years and 6 months with 19 years as a Texas Ranger (1984-2003) and 17 years stationed in Brownwood. He was elected as Brown County sheriff in 2004 and in one 3 year period his department presented over 752 felony cases to federal and state grand juries. Grubbs passed away at the age of 70 while serving his third term as Brown County sheriff. |
